Xie Xie Mountain is located 5 kilometers southeast of Liancheng Town in Lianjiang City, in Xie Xie Village. Due to its rare resources, Xie Xie Mountain is both an ecological conservation area and a mysterious tourist destination.
Visitors can appreciate the various wild lychee trees in the forest, climb the peculiar rocks on the mountaintop, listen to the moving bird songs and legends, and taste the sweet and sour mountain fruits, experiencing a return to nature.
The origin of the name Xie Xie Mountain is a legend: Yang Qin, a villager at the foot of the mountain, once served as an editor in the Ming Dynasty’s Hanlin Academy. When he returned to his hometown after resigning from his post, Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty bestowed upon him a pair of shoes. To remember the imperial favor, Yang Qin renamed the Lion Mountain behind his home to Xie Xie Mountain, a name that has been passed down to this day. There are the remains of Yang Qin’s study site on the mountain—the Hanlin Stone Chair. It is also said that the tribute lychees from the Han and Tang dynasties were mostly produced by Xie Xie Mountain, and the lychees consumed by Yang Guifei were specially delivered from Xie Xie Mountain by dedicated individuals and horses, truly a lychee mountain that reaches the heavens.
