Located on the southern bank of the Xinjiang River in Xinzhou District, Shangrao City, Xinjiang Academy is one of the four ancient academies in Jiangxi Province.

It was founded in the 33rd year of the Kangxi Emperor’s reign (1694), originally named Qujiang Academy. In the 51st year of Kangxi’s reign (1712), it was expanded and renamed ‘Zhongling Lecture Hall’. In the eighth year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1743), a building was constructed on the back mountain to worship Zhu Xi, and it was renamed ‘Ziyang Academy’. By the 46th year of Qianlong’s reign (1781), it was finally called ‘Xinjiang Academy’.
The academy is surrounded by lush greenery, with the exquisitely carved and painted beams and rafters of the four-angled, flying-eave Kuixing Pavilion towering on Zhongling Terrace, featuring flower windows and green tiles, exuding an antique charm. Climbing the pavilion offers a panoramic view of the Xinjiang River and a distant view of Ling Mountain, providing a delightful experience.
In front of Zhongling Terrace, there are still ancient buildings such as the Spring Breeze Pavilion, Yita Pavilion, Evening Show Pavilion, and Daily Renewal Study Room. Although the Yile Hall has been destroyed, the stone tablets and rockeries in front of the hall are still intact.
Opening hours: Closed all day on Mondays throughout the year; Open from 09:00 to 17:00 from Tuesdays to Sundays throughout the year.
