Xishan Geological Museum

The Xishan Geological Museum in Taihu Lake, Suzhou is the first national geological park museum in the province. It is located in Shuiyuewu, Xishan Island, Wuzhong District. With a construction area of 6,000 square meters, it has multiple exhibition halls such as the Earth Hall, Mineral Resources Hall, Geological Environment Hall and Multi-functional Video Hall. It shows the unique natural landscape resources such as structure, stratum, paleontology, karst, and lake erosion in the Taihu Lake Basin in an all-round and multi-scale way. It fully displays the natural, humanistic and geographical features of Xishan. It is a scientific tourist attraction and popular science education base that integrates exhibition, collection, research and education, and has scientific, intellectual, ornamental and interesting features. The museum exhibits more than 150 collections including stratum paleontological relics, geological structure relics, karst and water-stone relics from Shigongshan scenic area, Sanshan Island scenic area, Linwu Cave scenic area, Piaomiao Peak scenic area and other places in Taihu Geological Park. It integrates exhibition, research, education and so on, concentrating the unique geological and landform landscapes of Taihu Lake Basin. Opening hours: Open from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, 09:00 – 12:00 and 13:00 – 16:00; Closed all day on Monday throughout the year. Tips: 1. Group visits need to be reserved 1 day in advance, and the reception office will arrange the visit. Due to the limited space of the exhibition hall, groups that have not made reservations in advance will not be received. Thank you for your understanding. 2. In order to ensure the safety of the exhibition hall and exhibits and the clean and orderly environment in the hall, the total daily reception of visitors does not exceed 1,000 people, 500 people in the morning and 500 people in the afternoon. 3. Please carry small valuable items with you; handbags, sundries, large items and others are not allowed to be brought into the exhibition hall. 4. Preschool children and primary school students must be accompanied by adults to visit; elderly people with limited mobility and those with mobility difficulties can only visit with relatives. People who are sloppily dressed, drunk, mentally ill, or bring pets are not allowed to visit. 5. It is strictly forbidden to bring flammable and explosive dangerous goods into the exhibition hall. Keep the museum clean and hygienic. Smoking, spitting and littering are prohibited. Keep the museum quiet and prohibit chasing, pushing and shoving, playing, and making loud noises. Follow the arrangements of the staff and maintain the visiting order. 6. Take good care of the exhibits and facilities in the museum and the items, ores, flowers, plants, trees, green spaces, etc. outside the museum. Do not touch exhibits, exhibition cases, exhibition cabinets, etc. Pay attention to safety and do not climb over or climb railings, rockeries and exhibits. It is prohibited to climb against or squeeze exhibition cabinets, exhibition cases and auxiliary facilities. Be careful of glass to avoid damage to exhibits and injury to the body.
