Yalong Bay Central Square

Yalong Bay Central Square may not have any particularly noteworthy attractions, but it can be considered a landmark of Yalong Bay. Especially the totem poles in the square, composed of more than 200 large granite stones and aluminum alloy columns with a diameter of 2.5 meters, attract many tourists to take photos and commemorate their visits.

The totem pole is the highlight of the square, with carvings of dragons, phoenixes, sunbirds, fish, and the four deities of wind, rain, thunder, and lightning. Around the central sculpture area of the totem pole, there are three concentric circles of stone formations: the first circle features the four seasonal symbols of Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise, along with a sundial and 24 solar terms sculptures; the second circle depicts eight ancient myths such as Pangu separating heaven and earth, Nuwa mending the sky, Chang’e flying to the moon, the dance of the heavenly soldiers, Yu the Great controlling the floods, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, Hou Yi shooting the suns, and Kuafu chasing the sun; the third circle reflects on astronomy, humans, animals, plants, all living beings, and eight ancient Chinese deities. The totem pole and the sculpture group form a harmonious whole, embodying a strong sense of ancient Chinese astronomy and Eastern mystique.
