Located by the banks of Yangcheng Lake in Bacheng Town, Kunshan, Jiangsu, the Yangcheng Lake Tourism and Leisure Area is renowned for its famous hairy crabs that are celebrated both domestically and internationally. Among the three peninsulas of Yangcheng Lake, two islands, known as ‘Beauty’s Leg’ and ‘Lotus Island,’ are within its territory, making it a popular destination for tourists to experience the pastoral scenery of the Jiangnan region and the pleasures of leisure vacations.
Yangcheng Lake enjoys a spring-like climate all year round with clear lake waters. The eastern shoreline stretches for 9.67 kilometers, meandering and picturesque. The lake is abundant in clear water hairy crabs with green backs, white bellies, golden claws, and yellow hairs. The delicacies known as the ‘Three Treasures of Yangcheng’—hairy crabs, shrimp, and mandarin fish—attract numerous food enthusiasts to Bacheng Yangcheng Lake Food Street and the Hairy Crab Trading Market.
There are numerous water restaurants on Yangcheng Lake, and it only takes a ten-minute speedboat ride to reach them. Dining by the lake while enjoying crabs is one of the great pleasures of visiting Yangcheng Lake. The lake is also home to the only remaining ‘Bagua’ water city site from the Spring and Autumn period in China, as well as the ‘Eight Ancient Sceneries’ of Bacheng, which are famous both domestically and internationally. The harmonious blend of water and sky, villages with white walls and black tiles, small bridges over flowing water, and the largest freshwater swimming venue and water park in Eastern China have earned it the nickname ‘Oriental Venice’.
