Zhongcun in Luting is a thousand-year-old ancient village like a hidden Peach Blossom Spring in Ningbo. It is located at the northern foot of the Siming Mountains. The terrain is high in the south and low in the north. The Xiaolu Daxi River flows through the village. Here, there is a long history. Green mountains, beautiful waters, ancient temples, ancient bridges, and ancient dwellings show the unique style of an ancient rural village in eastern Zhejiang. Approaching Zhongcun, there are layers of lush green mountains in front. In the center of the village, a crystal-clear Xiaolu River winds through, dividing the entire village in two, forming a situation of facing each other across the bank. Most of the existing residential buildings in the village are traditional rural buildings made of stone blocks and with simple decorations. The interior of the village maintains the traditional street texture, and the overall pattern is complete. The Baiyun Bridge in the village was built in the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. Later, it was destroyed and rebuilt many times. The existing bridge was built in the 16th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty and has a history of over a hundred years. Looking from afar, this towering single-arch stone bridge with a steep arch spans across the banks of the Xiaolu River like a rainbow. The bridge is tall and narrow, and the mountains on both sides stand upright. Matching this Baiyun Bridge are 20 stepping stones connected to the arch bridge on the south side. This unique stepping stone on mountain streams does not have bridge planks. Floods can flow over from between the stepping stones, and pedestrians can also cross the water by stepping on the stones. Its principle is equivalent to the spillway of a modern reservoir dam, playing the role of releasing floods and protecting the bridge. Nowadays, villagers have also opened farmhouse inns in their own homes. Dishes such as grey juice dumplings, roast bamboo shoots and meat, stream fish, dried bamboo shoots and pickles produced here have a rural flavor. If you still feel unsatisfied, you can also buy some sweet potatoes, dates, dried bamboo shoots and pickles, vermicelli, etc. to take back and savor carefully.
