Zhongjian Island

Zhongjian Island is located at the southern end of the Xisha Islands, Sansha City, Hainan Province, China. It is about 50 kilometers southwest of Huaguang Reef, approximately 90 kilometers from the main island of Yongle, Jinqing Island, and about 178 kilometers from the main island of Xisha, Yongxing Island. Commonly known by Chinese fishermen as Luo Island or Banlu Shi, the current name commemorates the Zhongjian Warship from 1946. Some consider it part of the Yongle Islands, while others view it as an isolated island of the Xisha group. With an elevation of over 2 meters, the land area has shrunk from 1.5 square kilometers to 1.2 square kilometers due to erosion from wind and waves. During typhoon high tides, much of the island is often submerged. At high tide, Zhongjian Island is only about the size of two football fields, which is 0.014 square kilometers, approximately one percent of its size at low tide. The surrounding reef is relatively large, covering an area of about 7.5 square kilometers. The island is a sand island developed on the top of a platform reef, with sand embankments around and a residual shallow lagoon inside. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the daily opening conditions.
