Zhongshan Park

Zhongshan Park, originally known as Zhaofeng Park, was initially constructed in 1914 by Zhaofeng, a British national residing in Shanghai at the time. It was one of the more famous parks in Shanghai during its early days. Despite being situated in a bustling commercial area, the park offers a tranquil retreat with a variety of features such as pavilions, rockeries, lawns, flower beds, ponds, and a children’s playground. The park boasts excellent air quality and environment, making it an ideal spot for outdoor activities for the local residents. Predominantly styled in the British natural gardening fashion, it also integrates the essence of Chinese garden art, creating a unique fusion of Eastern and Western styles. It is one of the older parks in Shanghai that has preserved its original landscape style relatively intact. The park is renowned for its Twelve Scenes, which include the Silver Gate with Verdant Foliage (South Main Gate), the Fragrant Villa with Blooming Flowers (Peony Garden), the Water Pavilion amidst Drizzling Rain (Chen’s Pond), the Morning Sun on the Green Lawn (Lawn Area), the Red Chant in the Flower Garden (Rose Garden), the Twin Lakes Surrounded by Greenery (Mandarin Duck Lake), the Clear Moon over the Lotus Pond (Lotus Pond), the Towering Beauty of the Forest Garden (Landscape Garden), the Proud Lone Tree Defying the Frost (Suspended Lime Tree), the Sunset Glow on the Stone Pavilion (Marble Pavilion), the Misty Snow on the Red Bridge (Red Stone Bridge), and the Legacy of the Old Garden (Back Garden Gate). The park is open all year round, with 24-hour access.
