In Dingshu Town, Yixing, there is a Shangyuan Village. Here, ‘every household pounds clay and makes pottery’. It can be called the cradle of Yixing purple sand craft talents. Shangyuan Village was renamed Zisha Village in the early 1990s. The pottery-making history here has been at least more than 6,500 years. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the purple sand pottery art in Shangyuan Village has become increasingly exquisite, and there are many masters emerging one after another. For example, Hu Yi masters such as Hui Mengchen, Chen Mingyuan, Shao Dahong, Wang Yinchun, and Gu Jingzhou are all the pride of this village.
