Sandiapei Cape

Sandiapei Cape is located at the easternmost corner of Taiwan, between Fulong and Toucheng today. In 1626, Spanish ships from the Philippines arrived in the northeastern waters of Taiwan, preparing to occupy the northern part of Taiwan, and named this place San Diego. It is said that they built the Santiago Castle here, and later the name San Diego was transliterated into Sandiapei Cape. In 1929 and 1931, Japanese vessels Fushun Maru and Huanan Maru successively encountered shipwrecks near the waters of Sandiapei Cape and sank. As a result, the Governor-General of Taiwan decided to construct a lighthouse at this location, which still stands today. The lighthouse is open to visitors all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day.
