The original name of Guanyin Zen Temple was ‘Guanyin Nunnery at the Western Foot of Donglu Mountain’, which dates back more than 700 years to the Yuan Dynasty. It was destroyed in the war during the reign of Emperor Xianfeng of the Qing Dynasty. It was reconstructed in the eighth year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign (1882), but later destroyed again. After 1999, it was rebuilt. In 2000, Donglu Mountain Guanyin Temple became a subordinate temple of Jiming Temple, and was approved by the provincial and Nanjing municipal governments as a key construction temple. Buildings such as the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, Yuantong Hall, Drum Tower, Bell Tower, Dining Hall, and Dormitories were constructed.

In December 2010, the newly built Yuantong Hall was completed and a Buddha opening ceremony was held. The temple is open all day from January 1st to December 31st.
