Bajie Gazing at the Sea is located within the Baishan Scenic Area. Its unique shape resembles Bajie looking out into the distant sea, hence the name. It is said that Bajie Gazing at the Sea was named so because, after accompanying Tang Sanzang to the West to obtain the sacred scriptures, Bajie, still unable to forget Lady Gao from Gaolao Village, came to Putuo Mountain to seek the help of Guanyin Bodhisattva. He waited in Baishan for Guanyin Bodhisattva, and has been waiting ever since.

The area is open all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day.
