Bawangling Forest Nature Reserve

The Bawangling Forest Nature Reserve preserves a large area of pristine tropical rainforests, montane rainforests, evergreen montane forests, and summit dwarf forests. It represents the basic forest and land types of Hainan’s tropical rainforests. The reserve is home to tree species such as Hainan cypress, Chinese arborvitae, and South Asian pine.


The main fauna in the area include over 50 species from more than 30 families. In addition to the Hainan black gibbon, other precious species include sambar deer, clouded leopard, leopard cat, python, peafowl pheasant, and white eared-pheasant. Among these, 17 species are nationally protected animals, and 12 species are protected at the provincial level.
