Catholic Art Museum and Crypt

The Catholic Art Museum and Crypt is located within the ruins of St. Paul’s Church behind the Ruins of St. Paul’s. The exhibits in the museum are fine Catholic art pieces collected from various churches and monasteries, including four oil paintings illustrating the deeds of St. Francis of Assisi, as well as statues of the crucifixion, sacred sculptures, and liturgical objects. The oil painting ‘Archangel St. Michael’ in the museum is particularly famous; St. Paul’s Church was destroyed by a fire in 1835, and this oil painting is the only artwork from the St. Paul’s College that has survived to this day. The crypt features a granite tomb at its center, with the walls of the crypt lined with ossuaries containing the remains of Japanese and Vietnamese martyrs. The museum is open year-round Monday, Wednesday-Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM; on Tuesdays, the museum is open from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
