The Chiayi prison was built in 1922
As a new prison has been opened in Lucao Township, the old prison has been transformed into a prison administration museum
Nowadays, the museum still retains the furnishings and environment of the previous prison, allowing the public to experience prison life and showing everyone the results of the preservation and reuse of the Chiayi prison
At the same time, it is also the shooting location for more than fifty movies and TV dramas
Opening hours: open all year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 – 12:00 and 13:30 – 16:00
Must-see tips: In addition to seeing the things that should be in the prison, there are also some cultural relics related to prison administration on display, including slippers in which prisoners secretly hid cigarettes back then
The content is quite rich and also makes people realize the preciousness of freedom
The military dependents’ village next to the prison is more serious than ordinary military dependents’ villages as it is mostly inhabited by personnel from legal institutions
