Dongshan Town

Dongshan Town, belonging to Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, is also known as Dongting Dongshan. It is located in the southwestern part of Dongshan Peninsula on the southeastern shore of Taihu Lake. It is 37 kilometers away from the ancient city area of Suzhou. It is between 31°00′ – 31°07′ north latitude and 120°20′ – 120°27′ east longitude. The total area is 96.6 square kilometers. As of February 2014, the resident population is more than 53,000. It governs 12 administrative villages and 1 community. In 2010, it was awarded the honorary title of the fifth batch of ‘Famous Historical and Cultural Towns in China’ and the national beautiful environment town by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. In 2012, Dongshan Town achieved a regional GDP of 2.054 billion yuan. The total industrial output value of the whole town is 3.85 billion yuan. The full-caliber fiscal revenue is 260 million yuan.
