Fan Mao Li Village, located 2 kilometers southwest of Wuzhishan City, is a settlement of the Li people. It can be reached by following the north bank of the Nan Sheng River for 2 kilometers. Originally a village under the ‘joint field system’, it once consisted of only a dozen or so ‘boat-shaped’ thatched houses. Men traditionally grew long hair tied in a bun at the forehead, wrapped with red or black cloth, and wore collarless jackets with a front opening. Women tattooed their faces, wore pattern-embroidered skirts, embroidered headscarves, and jackets without buttons, also with a front opening; they favored earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and other accessories.
After liberation, clothing customs changed, with women only wearing traditional attire on holidays or when greeting tourists, and no longer tattooing their faces. The tourism village is run by the Li people and now features Li-style bamboo buildings and a rich ethnic atmosphere. Inside the village, various Li labor tools, daily utensils, and entertainment instruments are displayed, and visitors can watch Li dance performances and purchase distinctive ethnic crafts. The village is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
