In the birthplace of Zhejiang’s mother river, the Qiantang River—Kaihua County, lies a millennia-old village where one can witness the Milky Way with the naked eye. This hidden paradise is nestled on the high mountain terraces at an elevation of 612 meters, at the junction of Zhejiang, Anhui, and Jiangxi provinces. In spring, pear blossoms rain down; in summer, the sky is filled with stars; in autumn, the harvest is displayed; and in winter, the snow is boundless. After four years of revival, the ancient village has transformed into a vacation complex featuring the starry sky as a super IP, the millennia-old village as a carrier of cultural connotations, and the warmth of the local residents painting the scenes of life. Named ‘Starry Field of Gaotian’, meaning stars reside in the high fields. Here, the population is sparse, clouds are thin, surrounded by mountains, and light pollution is almost non-existent, making it a natural dark area in astronomy, a protected site for the dark night in China, and a star-gazing destination in East China, comparable to the dark night parks in Tekapo, New Zealand, Achi Village in Japan, and Ali in Tibet. Every summer, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye, and the August Perseid meteor shower is spectacular and awe-inspiring. In winter, the constellation of Orion is clearly visible, and the stargazing conditions are superior throughout the year, attracting many ‘star-chasers’ from far and wide. This place is also the location of the Qianjiangyuan National Park, a window to the subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest on the 30th parallel north, rich in ecological species, pure air, and super-saturated negative oxygen ions, with an abundance of greenery. Mountains, forests, water systems, and villages together give birth to the unique style of the Qiantang River source. Starry Field of Gaotian includes five main areas: the ancient village center experience area, the ancient village tour area, the dining area, the mountaintop dark night astronomy museum, and the homestay cluster area.
