The lower half of the street was known for its opium dens and restaurants, and as night fell, the ‘Three Streets of the Flower Country’ would come alive with vibrant energy. Crimson lanterns were hung high, and the streets were filled with stunning beauties and wealthy merchants, indulging in a night of revelry and extravagance. The street has preserved numerous two-story late Qing Dynasty buildings, with their bright red eaves, lattice windows, and pierced wooden doors still showcasing their former elegance against the grey walls, exuding an antique charm. It is an ideal street for strolling in Macau and has attracted numerous restaurants and eateries, presenting a different atmosphere. Nowadays, walking along Fu Long Xin Street, one can smell the aroma of various delicacies, as it now hosts numerous restaurants, eateries, snack shops, and dessert stores. Many food connoisseurs make a special trip here to savor the local cuisine. Among the mouthwatering dishes is shark fin, particularly famous at the Southwest Restaurant, a two-story establishment with a large shark fin hanging on the glass door, with a bowl of ‘Tian Jiu Fins’ costing over a thousand dollars, earning it the nickname ‘the dining hall for the wealthy’. For more budget-friendly options, there are stores like Tian Fa Bowl Shark Fin, Tan’s Shark Fin, and A San’s Beautiful Shark Fin, selling shark fin at just a few tens of dollars. Additionally, Fu Long Xin Street is also known as the ‘Souvenir Street’, offering a complete range of Macau’s characteristic souvenirs such as beef jerky, peanut candy, almond biscuits, shrimp paste, and salted fish.
