The Guanyin Jump scenic spot is located at the seaside southeast of Longwan Hill in Putuo Mountain. It is composed of the ‘Guanyin Jump Sea Stone’ and the Western Pure Garden (also known as Western Nunnery), facing Luojia Famous Mountain across the sea. The Guanyin Jump Sea Stone is huge and flat, perilously located on the cliff side, lying in the wind as if about to fall but stopping. According to legend, this stone was the leverage stone when Guanyin Bodhisattva first opened Putuo Mountain as a sacred place for spreading Dharma and leaped from Luojia Mountain. It is also said that this stone is the one stepped on by the Bodhisattva when looking at the sea, reflecting on herself, and cultivating and verifying perfect enlightenment. Therefore, it is also known as the ‘Guanyin Sea-gazing Stone’. Today, there are still the sunken footprints of the Bodhisattva on the top of this stone (see picture), which is extremely sacred and is one of the must-visit holy sites of Guanyin for believers coming to Putuo Mountain. Open all year round and all day long.
