Even the folk legend of Du Shiniang angrily sinking her treasure chest took place here. Yangzhou is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong and poets of all dynasties would leave many widely praised poems when passing by Guazhou.
