Nanjing Gucheng Lake is named after the ancient ‘Gucheng’ by the lake shore. It is commonly known as Little South Lake. The predecessor of the lake was originally a lagoon by the sea. Coral fossils from that time were found and collected on the limestone in the east cliff and Huashan area of the lake. It was historically known as Danyang Daze. Later, due to the alluvial deposits of rivers and sediments over a long period of time, there appeared lake beaches one after another. After generations of people’s reclamation, Daze was divided into Danyang Lake, Shijiu Lake and Gucheng Lake. Among them, only Gucheng Lake is a lake owned by Gaochun County. The existing area is about more than 30 square kilometers. The water quality is pure and clear, and it is rich in fish, shrimp and water chestnuts.
