Guia de Francisco Xavier Street is named after Francisco Xavier, a former governor of Macau. In 1921, during the tenure of Francisco Xavier, the Taipa administrative institution – the Taipa government building was completed. It is a magnificent building with Western style on Taipa Island. As the administrative center for the Portuguese to govern the islands of Coloane and Taipa, the older generation of Taipa residents call it ‘the yamen’. To commemorate Governor Francisco Xavier, later the Macau Portuguese government named the street to the east of the building as Guia de Francisco Xavier Street. It starts from Praça Governador Nobre de Carvalho in the southwest and ends at the junction of Rua Direita Carlos Eugénio and Rua do Cunha in the northeast. It is 285 meters long and 4 to 6 meters wide. The opening hours are subject to the actual opening situation on the day.
