Guia Hill – The Eastern Watch Hill

Guia Hill, also known as Pine Hill, stands at an elevation of 91 meters in the eastern part of the Macau Peninsula and is renowned as a prominent highland in the area. It serves as a geographical landmark for Macau. Historically referred to as Qin Hill, it was named for its resemblance to a horizontal zither. Originally, it was a barren hill. During the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, a tree-planting trend in Macau led to the hill being covered with green pines. Within a few years, the entire hill was transformed into a pine forest, earning it the name Wan Song Ridge, which was later abbreviated to Pine Hill. It has since become a scenic spot in Macau. A mountain road encircles the waist of Pine Hill, with several pavilions built along the way to provide shelter from wind and rain. The road is lined with trees, offering a refreshing sea breeze, the sound of rolling pine waves, and the fragrance of birds and flowers, which is truly invigorating. The hill is open all year round, accessible at all times, with the specific operational status subject to the day’s opening conditions. A must-see tip: as the cable car undergoes routine inspections on Mondays, it is advisable to avoid Mondays for a cable car ride to the hilltop.
