Hai Hui Bridge

On the way from Puji Temple to Fayu Temple, one must traverse a fragrant path known as ‘Yutang Street’. At the end of this path lies a pond called ‘Ri Lian Chi’. Above the pond stands the Hai Hui Bridge, which is the main route to enter Fayu Temple. The bridge was constructed in the 15th year of the Guangxu era (1889) through the fundraising efforts of the temple’s abbot.

Before the bridge, ancient towering trees create a serene and elegant atmosphere. The term ‘Hai Hui’ signifies the gathering of numerous Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, whose virtues and numbers are as vast and boundless as the ocean, hence the name. The Hai Hui Bridge spans across the Ri Lian Chi, dividing the pond into two sections: east and west. It is a single-arch stone bridge, approximately 20 meters long and 5 meters wide. The double-sided reliefs on both sides of the railings are engraved with 52 different patterns of theatrical stories, bamboo, flowers, birds, and various aquatic creatures such as shrimp, crabs, and fish, all exquisitely and vividly carved.

The bridge is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
