Haikou Port’s Xinhai District is a specialized, large-scale, intensive, and modern port area for the passenger and cargo ro-ro transportation across the Qiongzhou Strait. It aims to become a comprehensive transportation hub for the province, a center for land-island transport, and a gathering area for modern port services. The completion of the Xinhai District has not only achieved the relocation of the ferry business from Xiuying Port District, reducing the impact of port logistics on the traffic in the main urban area, but also created a modern professional port area for passenger and cargo ro-ro transportation, significantly improving the port’s infrastructure conditions.
Furthermore, with the completion of the Nanshan Port passenger and cargo ro-ro terminal in the Xuwen Port District of Zhanjiang Port on the opposite side, the sailing distance across the Qiongzhou Strait has been reduced from 18 nautical miles to 12 nautical miles. The passenger crossing time will be reduced to 1 hour, making travel between the two sides more convenient and faster. The port is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
