Located 10 kilometers north of Danzhou City in Luoji Town, there is a village called Wuji Village, where lush forests and tall bamboos thrive, and tens of thousands of egrets reside, earning it the name ‘Heaven for Egrets’.
The village boasts three large banyan trees, each as tall as a four-story building, with broad and graceful canopies that serve as spacious homes for the egrets.
The history of egrets inhabiting Wuji Village spans over 20 years. Every year, as the Qingming Festival approaches, flocks of egrets arrive and stay until around December when the frost descends, living there for about eight to nine months. The locals here are very fond of the birds and never harm them. As dusk falls, the egrets return to the village in a V-formation, creating a spectacular sight. For birdwatching convenience, a six-story birdwatching tower has been constructed in ‘Heaven for Egrets’ – Wuji Village, making it a distinctive tourist attraction.
