Huánxiù Bridge was built in 1581 (the ninth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty). It spans the former Xiaotong and Beicui weirs. It is the earliest high bridge in Xitang. It is said that on a sunny day, standing on the top of the bridge, one can look north to the green mountains on the edge of Taihu Lake. After collapsing in 1944, it was rebuilt into a wooden bridge and then reconstructed into a stone arch bridge in 1997. If a cruise ship passes through the arch bridge, one can clearly see a couplet on both sides of the bridge pier. ‘The boat passes through the jasper ring, and people walk on the rainbow belt.’ This couplet describes two ways of crossing the bridge. One is to ferry through the jasper ring under the bridge, and the other is to walk across from the bridge. Huánxiù Bridge connects the Misty Rain Corridor and the bustling West Street. It is also the only way from the corridor to Shipi Alley. Whether it is sunny, rainy or in the night, standing on the top of the bridge and looking into the water town in the distance, one can see gray walls and white tiles stacked layer upon layer. Two rows of red lanterns are hung high on the river bank, and the black-awning boats in the river sway with the waves. It is also a romantic and beautiful scene.
Opening hours: Open all day all year round.

Must-see tips: The ‘thread-sky’ Gordon Euryale cake workshop at the bottom of Huánxiù Bridge (No. 52, Tongyu Street) is said to be the most authentic one in all of Xitang! Recommended osmanthus-flavored Gordon Euryale cake is soft, glutinous, sweet, with osmanthus fragrance and delicious without being greasy.
