Leizhou West Lake Park

Leizhou West Lake is abundant with historical sites, including Su Gong Pavilion, which features a lotus pond and a stone statue of Su Shi in front of its four-pillar double-eave structure.

Shi Xian Ci, the temple dedicated to the ten sages, contains a stele inscribed with ‘The Record of Leizhou Ten Sages Hall’ written by Wen Tianxiang and calligraphed by Yao Wending, along with white marble line carvings of the images of Kou Zhun, Su Shi, Su Zhe, Qin Guan, Wang Yanso, Ren Boyu, Li Gang, Zhao Ding, Li Guang, and Hu Quan, known as the ‘Ten Sages’.

Jun Yuan Academy is also present, along with Lai Spring Well, Dragon King Temple, and the ‘West Lake Flat, Top Scholar Born’ archway, all embellishing the tranquil lake, willow banks, and winding corridors and bridges. The park also houses a substantial amusement park.

Standing on the Nine-Turn Bridge over the lake, Su Gong Pavilion, Biehu Pavilion, and Yingxiu Pavilion, one can enjoy the clear lake and the green willows with shimmering waves. This park, with its subtropical and Jiangnan water town characteristics, is immersed in greenery, with bright moonlight and a refreshing spring atmosphere.

Originally named Luohu, Leizhou West Lake Park is located at the northwest corner of Leizhou Ancient City, covering an area of over 90,000 square meters. Since the first year of the Qianxing era of the Song Dynasty (AD 1022), when Kou Zhun was demoted to Leizhou as a household参军 and lived by the lake, followed by many celebrities who visited and lived here, it became a famous scenic spot. In the fourth year of the Shaosheng era of Emperor Zhezong of Song (1097 AD), Su Shi, exiled from Huizhou, was further demoted to Danzhou and lived on the lake with his brother Su Zhe, lingering in the moonlit lake and forgetting to return. To commemorate the traces of the sages, the people of Leizhou changed Luohu to ‘West Lake’.
