Longchi Mountain, located 35 kilometers south of Yixing City within the territory of Mingling Township, is a forest nature reserve in Jiangsu Province, covering an area of over 1,800 acres. With a forest coverage rate of 95% and a multitude of rare and endangered plants, it is known as the ‘Natural Kingdom of Plants’. Longchi Mountain is primarily famous for its ‘rarity, peculiarity, antiquity, and strangeness’. Rarity refers to the presence of rare tree species and plants; peculiarity is characterized by the pool on the mountain top that is said to contain a dragon; antiquity is represented by the Chengguang Temple, one of the eight major temples in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, which was established at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty; strangeness is embodied by the Baiyun Rock cliffs that stand tall and are shrouded in morning mist, transforming in myriad ways, and the Xiaoyun Stone, which is said to predict the weather, forming one of the ten scenic spots of Jingxi, ‘Longchi Morning Clouds’.
Longchi Temple: A famous scenic spot on the mountain, originally built in the second year of the Xian Chun period of the Song Dynasty (1266 AD) and named Yumen Zen Temple. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, it was decreed to be ‘Chenguang Temple’. Chenguang Temple was an important place for the dissemination of the Linji School of Zen in the Jiangnan region during the Ming Dynasty. The 29th generation of Linji School, Master Huanyou, and his four eminent disciples, Miyun Yuanwu, Tianyin Yuanxiu, and Baopuyuanlian, all made significant contributions to the inheritance and promotion of the Linji School.

Longchi: Located at the mountain summit. From here, one can overlook the vast Taihu Lake with its distant sails. The sunrise viewed from here is as magnificent as that of Mount Tai.
