Architectural Structure: Lugang Earth Store Bodhisattva Temple is located on Lixing Street in Lugang Town
The building is long and narrow, facing west and sitting east
Its layout is of two halls and two corridors
The main hall enshrines the Earth Store Bodhisattva
The side niches on the left and right are dedicated to the local deity and the Goddess of Childbearing
Temple History: According to records, the Earth Store Bodhisattva Temple was initially a small thatched temple
After the golden statue of the Earth Store Bodhisattva was invited and enshrined from Zunyan, Tianzhu, Sichuan Province in the 22nd year of Qianlong, the incense gradually flourished
After being rebuilt in the 20th year of Jiaqing, it became the building we see today
‘Inverted Banyan Tree’: In front of the Earth Store Bodhisattva Temple, there is also a very famous banyan tree
It is said to be about 9 meters high, with a trunk diameter of 3 meters and a crown area of about 50 square meters
The tree is about 250 years old
According to legend, the Earth Store Bodhisattva belongs to the yin and yang deities
So initially, this banyan tree was planted upside down with banyan branches, commonly known as the ‘inverted banyan tree’ and belongs to the ‘yin tree’
