Macao Museum

The Macao Museum is located on the hill of Mong-Ha, near the Ruins of St. Paul’s, and can be visited alongside the Monte Fortress. The museum showcases the history and social changes of the region, recording the cultural convergence and harmonious coexistence that have formed a unique folk culture through its rich exhibits. The museum is a three-story building, with two levels built beneath the platform of the Monte Fortress and only the upper level converted from the original meteorological station’s ground structure, thus preserving the original architectural style and topographical features of the Monte Fortress to the greatest extent. After visiting the museum, visitors step out to the Monte Fortress, offering a panoramic view of the entire city. The first floor of the museum is themed around the origins of local civilization and its development; the second floor focuses on folk art and traditions, with exhibits revealing various aspects of local history, including entertainment, daily life, religious rituals, and celebrations. The third floor displays the characteristics of contemporary urban life and prospects for the future. Additionally, the museum exhibits works by renowned authors, including Portuguese literary figures Luis de Camões and庇山耶. The museum is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM; it is closed all day on Mondays, except for public holidays when it remains open. Please refer to the day’s opening status for specific operational details.
