Meilu Villa

In the Donggu Valley of Lushan Mountain, there is a Changchong River that winds in and then winds away. By the Changchong River, there is an English coupon corridor-style villa hidden deep in a shade of greenery. The villa was built in 1903 by Lord Lanorz of the United Kingdom. In 1922, it was transferred to Ms. Bailey. Bailey was on good terms with Song Meiling. In 1934, she presented this house to Song Meiling. Meilu consists of two parts: the main building and the annex building. The main building has two floors and the annex building has one floor. Ascending the cross-shaped long stone steps and stepping onto the transparent balcony. Entering the first floor of the main building is an elegantly decorated living room that combines Chinese and Western styles. The cat’s eye green carpet, dark green sofa. On the wall are half-length photos of Song Meiling from different periods and some photos of her life in ‘Meilu’. The interior furnishings basically remain in their original state. In the middle, there is a double bed. It is said to be made of high-quality British wood. On the left side of the bed is a round carved dressing table. On the square cabinet are delicate items such as ivory fans. From the outside, the annex building is a row of glass windows. The internal layout is on one side a passage and on the other side are independent functional rooms: dining room, music room, guard room, etc. Now, this place has been turned into an exhibition hall. The content displayed in the exhibition hall can be divided into three parts: First, the items remaining in ‘Meilu’, including the piano played by Song Meiling, hardcover English books read and collected by her, the watercolor painting ‘Lushan Mountain Stream’ painted by her, and the Fieser refrigerator that uses kerosene as power for refrigeration. Second, historical photos and historical items of important officials of the National Government’s political activities in ‘Summer Capital (Lushan Mountain)’, including photos of Chiang Kai-shek attending the graduation ceremony of the Lushan Mountain Officer Training Corps in September 1934, and photos of Chiang Kai-shek and Marshall talking on the balcony of ‘Meilu’ on July 17, 1937.
