This temple is also one of the oldest Mazu temples in Kaohsiung, with a history said to date back to the Kangxi era, and was declared a direct-controlled historical site by Kaohsiung City on May 31, 2007

According to the register of believers’ representatives, the followers of Nanzi Tianhou Palace are mainly distributed in Xiangpingli, Wuchanli, Huinani, and Dongningli of Nanzi District
