The Pearl Castle of Bai Long is located in Bai Long Village, Yingpan Town, 36 kilometers southeast of Beihai City. Legend has it that an ancient white dragon once coiled around this area, hence the name Bai Long City. Because Bai Long City is adjacent to the sea, it is known for producing high-quality and beautiful top-grade pearls. The ancient city is square-shaped, with a north-south length of 320 meters, an east-west width of 233 meters, a perimeter of 1107 meters, a wall height of 6 meters, and a city base width of 6 meters. The foundation is made of strip stones, the walls are made of fire bricks, and the center is rammed with yellow soil mixed with pearl shells. The area covers more than 70,000 square meters, divided into three city gates – east, south, and west, each with a tower for overlooking and monitoring the entire city and sea surface. Inside the city, there are facilities such as the Pearl Collection Office, the Pearl Field Office, the Salt Field Office, and Ninghai Temple. The walls inside and outside the city are made of fire bricks, with the center layering yellow soil and pearl shell shells every 10 centimeters, each layer being compacted, which is how the Pearl City got its name. Before the Anti-Japanese War, the ancient pearl city was still well-preserved. During the war, most of the city walls and gates were destroyed. After liberation, only one city wall and a south gate remained, which were also destroyed in 1958. There are a few stone carvings left in the memorial pavilion, and a 2.6-meter-high wall core at the south gate city wall. The ruins of the Pearl City have been listed as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit in Guangxi. The city now features attractions such as the Pearl Collection Pond, Pearl Pavilion, Pearl Collection Eunuch Office, and Ninghai Temple.
