Located in the heart of Shanghai, People’s Park is adjacent to the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street and is known as the ‘lung of the city’. The park can be broadly divided into three scenic areas: East, Central, and West. The main attractions in the northeastern part include the May Thirtieth Movement Monument and the Zhang Side Statue; the Central area has an open terrain, featuring the Antarctic Stone, Scenery Tower Tea House, open-air theater, and ballroom. To the north of the lawn, there is a large gallery, with stone tables and benches set among the woods for visitors to rest, play chess, or have picnics; the Western area is where garden architecture is more concentrated, featuring pavilions, corridors, arbors, rockeries, ponds, and wisteria trellises. There is a wide variety of plant species, with lush flowers and trees throughout the four seasons, making it the main tourist area of the park. The park focuses on plant landscape creation, promotes biodiversity, emphasizes the introduction of new plant varieties, and arranges a large number of flowering shrubs and colored-leaf trees. Inside the park, there are traditional landscape areas such as the Begonia Garden, Cuibihu Lake, Lotus Pond, and Xishan Waterfall, as well as modern landscape areas with bright colors and romantic atmospheres, such as the Magnolia Garden and the Hundred Flower Garden. It is a park with comprehensive leisure functions. The park is open all year round from 05:00 to 21:00.
