Po Chai Kek, also known as ‘The Home of the Poor,’ is situated at the end of the old district’s St. Lazarus’ courtyard, where two ancient Portuguese-style two-story buildings face each other across a courtyard. With a history spanning over a century, during World War II, it became a refuge for a large number of Portuguese from Shanghai who sought shelter in Macau. It later evolved into a home for elderly women. Today, Po Chai Kek has been revitalized by creative individuals who have transformed it into a hub for various art workshops accessible to both children and adults. It has become a popular destination for young artists and enthusiasts. The venue is open Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 PM to 7:30 PM and on Mondays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM throughout the year.
