Renwang Guo Huo Chan Temple

Renwang Guo Huo Chan Temple, originally established during the Tang Dynasty from the Zhide to Xiantong years, is located at the southern foot of Phoenix Mountain. The renowned monk, Master Wenxi, is recognized as the founder of the temple, which is a Buddhist site dedicated to Manjushri Bodhisattva. The temple’s name, ‘Renwang Guo Huo Chan Temple,’ was given by Emperor Yi Zong of Tang, inspired by the presence of a shrine to Xiang Yu on the mountain and the Buddhist scripture ‘The Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom for the Protection of the State by the King.’ The term ‘Renwang Guo Huo’ signifies the compassionate heart of a benevolent king who, upon witnessing the suffering of sentient beings, extends his power of freedom to protect them, hence the name ‘Renwang Guo Huo.’
