Sanmao Paradise is located on North Xinqiao Road, Haiyan County. The whole park covers an area of 29 mu and is divided into five scenic areas: the front area of the park, the memorial area, the children’s activity area, the lake center island area and the original children’s park. In the front area of the park stands a 26-meter-high bronze statue of Zhang Leping and ‘Sanmao’ gazing and smiling. The base of the bronze statue is engraved with Zhang Leping’s handwriting: Big trees grow from seedlings. We should carefully irrigate the seedlings. On the front right of the park area is ‘Mr. Zhang Leping Memorial Hall’, inscribed by literary master Ba Jin. The memorial hall is a two-story building with six exhibition halls, one showroom and one creation room. Inside the hall are displayed pictures and textual materials about Zhang Leping’s life story, as well as 500 comics such as Zhang Leping’s masterpieces ‘Sanmao’s Vagrant Life’, ‘Sanmao Loves Science’ and ‘Erwa Zi’. The donated paintings made by famous cartoonists and calligraphers and painters such as Hua Junwu, Ding Cong, Shen Roujian, Cheng Shifa, Xie Zhiliu and Fang Cheng, who were friends of Zhang Leping during his lifetime, are also collected and displayed. Zhang Leping Memorial Hall has been named as Jiaxing Patriotism Education Base and Haiyan County Patriotism Education Base. The Comic Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association has awarded it as ‘China Children’s Comic Base’, marking that Haiyan County, the ‘hometown of Sanmao’, has become the first children’s comic creation base in the country. Opening hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 – 16:30; Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8:00 – 17:00. The opening hours of Sanmao Paradise (Phase II) Amusement City project: open all year round (except on New Year’s Eve) 9:00 – 21:00.
