Xinghua Shagou Ancient Town is rich in regional characteristics and home to the intangible cultural heritage of Taizhou City, the ‘Bench Dragon’. The ancient residences in Yimin Alley are a concentrated reflection of the architectural style from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, with most of the buildings still well-preserved. They are rare historical artifacts for the study of water town architecture.

This ancient town, situated amidst lakes and marshes, is likened to a ‘gourd in the rivers and lakes’. It has been a place of work and life for many literati, including Zheng Banqiao, one of the ‘Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou’, the renowned educator Song Zefu, writer Hai Xiao, cartoonist Jiang Yihai, and poets Feng Yitong and Pang Yuliang. Today, the ancient town retains its simplicity, free from commercial noise and hordes of tourists, making it a rare tranquil spot for ancient town tourism. The specific opening hours are detailed in the on-site announcements.
