The Moom Church, located at the intersection of Hankou Road, is a church with red exterior walls. Directly opposite is the People’s Square. If you come from West Nanjing Road, you will pass by the church entrance, but most of the time the main door is closed because it is usually only open for visits on Sundays. Here, you can feel the sanctity and solemnity of the church, listening to the believers singing hymns, allowing the soul to be cleansed as well. The Moom Church was built in 1931 and was originally named Mool Hall, also known as ‘Mool Hall’. The church faces east and is in the neo-Gothic style, with a central hall that can accommodate a thousand people. In the southwest corner, there is a conspicuous bell tower, adjacent to a four-story annex and an affiliated school. In 1936, an American Christian who visited donated money to install a 5-meter high neon cross on the top of the church’s bell tower, making the church one of the most prominent in Shanghai and the Far East at that time. Today, a five-meter-high neon cross is installed on the top of the tower, which is particularly dazzling under the night light and has become a major attraction of the People’s Square. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual opening situation of the day.
