Ancient and modern fame of the spectacular wave phenomenon – Shenggong Stone, is a towering black cliff standing in the azure waves of the Bo’ao Port, several meters above the sea level. Throughout history, despite the wind and waves, this group of rocks stands firm and unyielding, with a majestic and sacred presence, hence people have beautified it as the ‘Shenggong Stone’.
Spectacular Wave Phenomenon: The Shenggong Stone’s wave phenomenon is most vivid a few hours after a heavy rain. Every time it rains heavily, mountain floods pour down, and the water levels of the Wanquan River, Longgun River, and Jiuqu River surge together, converging and rushing towards Bo’ao Port with surging momentum. At this time, the unyielding sea, with even greater momentum, lifts huge waves to collide with the oncoming floods of the three rivers. The two opposing waves collide simultaneously on the Shenggong Stone, turning into roaring streams that rush towards the sea. The two opposing waves, colliding round after round with reckless abandon, shatter over and over, and turn into streams time and again, tumbling and swirling, charging and colliding, racing around the Shenggong Stone, presenting a uniquely spectacular scenery.

Must-see tips: There is an ancient and strange legend that has been passed down: It is said that because the four corners of the sky collapsed, causing unquenchable fires and incessant water disasters on earth, and fierce beasts and birds harming the people. The kind and hardworking Nüwa in heaven, in order to relieve the suffering of the people, set up a huge furnace and refined five-colored stones to mend the sky. When Nüwa was refining the stones, she accidentally dropped a black stone. This stone fell precisely at the outlet of Bo’ao Port, causing the sudden appearance of this strange stone, which later generations called the ‘Shenggong Stone’. The legend of the strange stone can be said to express the good intentions and beautiful wishes of the ancients. In the Ming Dynasty, during the Jiajing years, the poem ‘Shenggong Stone Defending the Sea’ by Le Hui’s county magistrate Lu Peng states: ‘The sea water gazes into the vast and boundless, who taught the holy stone to stand by the sea. This place has always been a natural hazard, where else can we look for a stronghold.’ The poem points out that Shenggong Stone is a wonder of ‘nature’s design’, which seems to have scientific reasoning.
