Shi Zhong Mountain is located in Hukou County, Jiujiang City, by the banks of Poyang Lake. Many visitors have heard of it through Su Shi’s ‘Record of Shi Zhong Mountain’ in their high school textbooks. However, upon seeing it in person, you might feel somewhat disappointed – Shi Zhong Mountain is only over 40 meters tall and resembles a small park. Because the mountain is not tall, climbing it is not tiring at all, and the landscape on the mountain is compact, with almost every step revealing a new scene.
Most of the landscape features on the mountain are related to Su Shi, stones, and bells, such as the statue of Su Shi at the entrance of the scenic area, the Shi Zhong Pavilion on the mountain path, and a ‘Harmonious Bell’ that costs one yuan to ring, allowing visitors to pray for good fortune. Walking along the path leads to the Jiang Tian Yi Lan Pavilion, which offers an excellent viewpoint on the mountain. Standing in the pavilion and looking out, Poyang Lake is nearby, and the Yangtze River is in the distance. On a clear day, you can see a clear boundary where the lake water meets the river water, truly a sight of water blending with the sky.

Continuing forward, there are many more scenic spots to see. The Loyalty and Martyrdom Temple and the adjacent Ci Chan Forest, along with a lake-facing tower, are the main buildings on Shi Zhong Mountain. Although they have been restored later, they still retain some ancient charm. Sometimes, there are performances of chime bells on the stage here, which are worth stopping to appreciate. On the way down the mountain, there are several cliff inscriptions, with a winding path made of stone slabs built over the water in front of the inscriptions, just wide enough for one person to pass. You can stand on it to take photos, then carefully walk across, and soon you will be back at the foot of the mountain. Shi Zhong Mountain is not far from the Poyang Lake pier, and it’s a short walk after descending the mountain. Taking a boat tour on the lake allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Poyang Lake and capture the full view of Shi Zhong Mountain.
