The reservoir area covers 144 square kilometers, with over 300 islands within the reservoir. The total storage capacity is 3.34 billion cubic meters, storing rainwater from an area of 1400 square kilometers on both banks of the upper reaches of the Nan Dujiang River. It is connected through various channels to a large number of water conservancy projects, forming a unified irrigation system that waters the western and northwestern lands of Hainan Island.

The Songtao Reservoir area is vast, with over 100 islands scattered across the extensive waters, surrounded by mountains and covered with vast primeval forests. It not only benefits agriculture, fisheries, and industry but is also an excellent place for cooling off, vacationing, and sightseeing on Hainan Island. The most popular activity is boat tours around the reservoir area, where one can enjoy the scenery while floating on the clear waters, witnessing the mountains stretching, ancient trees towering, the lake’s deep blue, and fishing boats appearing and disappearing, creating a feeling of traveling through a painting.
