One of the three oldest churches in Macau. It was built around 1558 to 1560. Most of the early churches in Macau underwent the baptism of fire, and St. Anthony’s Church is no exception. The church we see today is on a scale after renovation in 1930. St. Anthony enshrined in the church is regarded as the master of marriage. There is an inscription on the stone tablet in front of the church that reads ‘He is the patron saint of marriage worshipped by Catholics’. Many believers choose to hold weddings in this church. Since brides traditionally hold flowers, St. Anthony’s Church is also known as the Flower King Church. The comfortable and leisureful Park of Coloane is just opposite St. Anthony’s Church. Many residents take walks here every day. According to legend, the famous Portuguese poet Camões once wrote the immortal epic ‘The Soul of Portugal’ here, making the park filled with a Portuguese sentiment. Next to it is the Protestant Cemetery, where many famous people who came to China are buried, such as the British painter George Chinnery and Robert Morrison, the first Christian missionary to translate the Bible into Chinese. The opening hours are subject to the opening status on the day.
