Suojiang Tower is located on the Yangtze River in Jiujiang urban area. When entering Jiujiang waters by ship, the pagoda (Wenfeng Tower) of Suojiang Tower will come into view. Therefore, Suojiang Tower has become a symbol of Jiujiang. Originally, there was one tower and one building in Suojiang Tower. In 1586, the 14th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, Wu Xiu, the magistrate of Jiujiang at that time, in order to prevent floods, according to the words of yin-yang scholars, raised funds to build Suojiang Tower on Huilongji by the river in Jiujiang. At that time, it was called Jiangtian Suoyue Tower, with three floors. There were four iron oxen for suppressing water beside the building. Later, a pagoda with a height of 25.26 meters was built in the south of the building, named Wenfeng Tower, also known as Huilong Tower. There are wooden ladders inside the tower for people to climb up. After being destroyed and restored several times, until after liberation, Suojiang Tower was rebuilt on the original site, covering an area of 18,000 square meters. Between Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge and Wenfeng Tower, two new copper oxen were cast. Each copper ox is 3.1 meters long, 2.7 meters high and 1.5 meters wide, weighing 1.5 tons. Once again, the historical features of the tower and building of Suojiang Tower relying on each other and copper oxen suppressing water are reproduced.
