The main building of Tainan City Art Museum 1 was originally the Tainan Police Station, completed in 1931 and designated as a city-level historic site in Tainan in 1998
It is one of the few preserved police station buildings in the country
The architecture of Tainan City Art Museum 2, designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, features a pure and strong pentagonal shape inspired by the phoenix tree flower, a symbol of Tainan
The building’s design incorporates vertical stacking and staggered square spaces, creating a flexible and free-flowing visitor experience
The semi-outdoor platform, shaped like a staircase, serves as a resting and activity space, making it a popular spot for tourists to visit in recent years
Tainan City Art Museum hosts various exhibitions on an irregular basis, offering a wealth of content that makes it a cultural sightseeing destination worth visiting for the whole family
The large pentagonal shading roof is designed to adapt to Tainan’s local climate, simulating the effect of natural tree shade
When sunlight hits the fragmented roof at different angles, it creates beautiful light and shadow effects, akin to light passing through leaves
The exhibition space in Museum 2 includes 16 exhibition rooms, a collection storage room, a cross-domain performance hall, a children’s art center, a creative workshop, a souvenir display area, a light dining area, and a landscape restaurant
The basement is an open public parking space
The Children’s Art Center is based on art education and children’s sensory development theories, offering a variety of multidisciplinary and cross-domain learning methods, designed teaching aids, and experiential facilities
It provides diverse creative materials, allowing children to understand basic artistic concepts and gain visual and tactile sensory experiences
Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00; closed all day on Monday; and open on Saturday from 10:00 to 21:00
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, the museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00, and on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00
