Taishun is a mountainous county located in the southern part of Zhejiang Province, bordered by Wencheng to the northeast, Jingning to the northwest, and adjacent to Fujian Province to the south. It covers a total area of 1700 square kilometers and is known as the land of ‘nine parts mountains, half water, and half fields’. The county is characterized by its high mountains and distant roads, with 179 peaks over 1000 meters and an average elevation of more than 490 meters. Historically, many celebrities and scholars migrated to Taishun, this secluded ‘Shangri-La’ with undulating mountains and sparse human presence, to escape turmoil, creating a local civilization with mountainous pastoral characteristics and leaving behind many precious historical and cultural heritages. Taishun Covered Bridges are an outstanding representative of these. Currently, there are more than 30 well-preserved wooden arch bridges from the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties in Taishun, which are unique in the world’s bridge history for their quantity, craftsmanship, beauty, and harmony with the surrounding environment, reminiscent of the Rainbow Bridge in the ‘Along the River During the Qingming Festival’ painting. These bridges, like treasures, are embedded among the mountains, attracting the attention of experts from home and abroad, and also welcoming a surge in Taishun Covered Bridge特色 tourism. The covered bridges are mainly distributed in the towns of San Kui, Luo Yang, Si Xi, Xiao Cun, and Zhou Ling in Taishun County, with buses connecting all the towns, making transportation very convenient and suitable for self-driving or independent travel. The distribution of the main bridges is as follows: Luo Yang Town: Xian Ju Bridge; Zhou Ling Township: San Tiao Bridge, Yu Wen Bridge; San Kui Town: Xue Zhai Bridge, Liu Zhai Bridge, Yong Qing Bridge; Xiao Cun Town: Wen Xing Bridge, Dong Yang Bridge; Si Xi Town: Xi Dong Bridge, Bei Jian Bridge, Nan Yang Bridge. In addition to the covered bridges, Shi Yang Town’s Shi Shui Dian Bu, Xue Xi Township’s Hu’s Mansion, Si Xi Town’s Bao’s Ancestral Hall, and Xiao Cun Town’s Xu Ao Di Ancient Village are all well-known tourist attractions, complementing the charm of Taishun Covered Bridges.
