The Examination Hall Ruins of Cicheng

Located in the northeastern corner of Cicheng Town, Jiangbei District, Ningbo City, the Cicheng School of Scholars was a venue for the selection of talents through the imperial examination system during the Qing Dynasty, known as the ‘Juren’ examination. Local residents also refer to it as the ‘Examination Hall’. The ‘Juren’ examination was held annually, consisting of three stages: county, prefecture, and academy. Those who passed were titled ‘students’, commonly known as ‘scholars’, and this was the place for the grassroots selection of talents in the feudal imperial examination system.
