The First Beach of the Yangtze River

The ‘First Beach of the Yangtze River’, originally known as ‘Maozhu Wei’, was enclosed to form land in 2010. According to the Shanghai Municipal Water Affairs Bureau’s water management and flood control plan, this area needed to be developed into a flood embankment capable of withstanding a once-in-200-years flood event. In 2013, Shanghai Changxing Island Development and Construction Co., Ltd. invested 320 million yuan to construct an ecological green space that is 1800 meters long and 50-70 meters wide, in line with flood control requirements. This has provided Shanghai residents with a recreational area where they can enjoy close-up views of the river scenery. Located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, adjacent to the East China Sea, it is aptly named ‘The First Beach of the Yangtze River’. It is open all year round, 24/7, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening conditions.
